Hi All!! We had our furniture delivered a little over a week ago now and we’re slowly unpacking and settling in.  We love our new home and are lucky to be in such a great and friendly neighborhood.  We’ve unpacked the main floor but I’m leaving my sewing and craft area for last…maybe.

So far, I’ve been able to decorate a few spaces and am in love with our mantle.

The Mantle

The Mantle

I picked up the picture a while ago at Value Village for $15 and I’m so happy to finally be able to hang it!  The ceramic bust was a curbside find.  The birdcage was a clearance item and the letter A was a thrift store purchase.  Finally, the “Thumbs Up” I found at Winners.  And don’t forget the chairs that I re-upholstered this past spring. Don’t they look amazing in front of the fireplace?

On top of unpacking the house, I needed to get moving on finding costumes for the boys since Halloween is only a week away.  I came across this fantastic tutorial and just had to try it!

Almost finished the Minion...just need to make the overalls!

What do you think?
Just add child and be ready to have the best Halloween ever!

Ah-Mazing idea…and great tutorial by the owner of Mink’s Paperie!

Hopefully I’ll have the house unpacked before Christmas!

What do you do when you get served a big heaping basket of lemons? Being the crafty person that I am, I try to make something out of it.

This weekend, a combination of wind and heat did a number on our glass patio table. Let’s just say that I was not impressed with having to clean up the million bits of glass that used to be my table top.

The Before!!

The Before!!

Seeing as there have been a lot of table top redos using barn boards or pallet boards lately, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to put my spin on the trend. And it was about time we had an update to our outdoor furniture anyway. Using some left over fence boards, Hubby and I created a new tabletop for our table.

We laid out the boards on top of the table and when we had the final configuration, Hubby cut them down to size. We fit them back onto the table frame. Then Hubby marked out the center of the table top and cut a hole for the umbrella.

We are now back in action, and ready to enjoy the summer in our new shabby chic farmhouse style table!

Inspiration and Motivation

With the end of March Break and the beginning signs of Spring, I’ve been itching to paint something.  Last fall, as I was making over a few rooms in our home, I fell in love with painting furniture. I painted our night stands, our dressers, the coffee and end tables, and the dining table and chairs! It gives me a sense of accomplishment and pride to take something that I already have (or have scored for a bargain at the thrift store) and turn it into something amazing and unique!

This weekend, we went to visit my mom in Ottawa. We had just taken the two-hour drive to her house the weekend before to drop off our oldest son for the week (Thanks Mom!) and I had noticed a few thrift stores I wanted to visit. Well let me tell you…I was in inspiration heaven! And if we had a pick up truck, I think I could have filled it with all sorts of thrifty goodness! Sadly, hubby says I have to finish the projects I already have at home before I can collect new ones.

But that left me motivated and inspired! I had been following this shop on Facebook, and made a stop into her store. Swoon! I left with a pot of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg Blue and my head spinning with ideas and inspiration!

Here are some pieces I have that I’m dying to paint!

Now, the only question is, do I wait for warmer weather or just go for it?
